The answer to the one is simple. Headphones are getting more fashionable at the same time as portable devices. The more devices there are on sale, the greater headsets shall be flying from the shelves with them.
Headphones are only useful when connected to an peripheral device of some kind, the remainder of the time; they have no function whatsoever, so headphone-ready devices must be on the rise if headset sales are increasing.
The extraordinary success of the Tablet PC and also the MP3 player has a lot to do with this. Socially, the iPodâs impact has been profound. When I was little, anybody over the age of about 16 who was wearing headphones and never jogging looked stupid, they seemed like some type of impotent man-child caught inside a desperate attempt to re-capture lost youth. Usually, these oddball creatures would bob their heads while they walked and tap their thighs with their hands, as if keeping time with some invisible beat, Iâm sure they thought they looked cool, but the general effect looked more to me like an epileptic flamingo that was going to throw up.
Of course today, basically everybody owns an iPod. Even Barack Obama, at the time a Presidential Candidate, revealed the contents of his iPod in the memorable âRolling Stoneâ interview. So it’s no surprise that sales of headphones are shooting up.
Of course, along with all the rise in portable devices came the increase in Internet gaming, another product that requires headphones. Of course, to properly play online, you’ll need a good set of headphones.
These days, Iâm unsure thereâs anything money can buy that doesnât possess a headphone jack in it somewhere. When I canât sleep at nighttime, I stick my headphones in and listen to music on my computer whilst my girlfriend sleeps, when I go out to meet her from work, I use headphones with my iPod and also you know what? Iâm not alone.
Next time youâre out and about, look around you and see just how many people are listening to something, its not only kids, its not just trendy adults, its everyone.
Because headsets donât last forever, they occasionally need replacing, which increases sales even higher. With everybody using headphones all day and every day, this indicates those weird looking nerds were onto something, after all.
