Journal of Infrastructure Systems
Special Issue: Infrastructure Planning, Design and Management
for Big Events
The Journal of Infrastructure
Systems is organizing a special
issue focusing on Infrastructure Planning, Operations and
Management for Big Events. Researchers
are invited to submit by May
1, 2005 scholarly papers for consideration
for publication in this issue.
Because of their ephemeral nature, big events that may
be special events such as Olympic Games, inaugurations, Super-Bowls, or
disasters such as earthquakes, fires, hurricanes, oil spills, use existing
and sometimes upgraded and new infrastructure that has not been conceived
to absorb the intense and highly polarized usage generated by such events.
Big events deal with a diversity of ³exceptional² situations, the impact of
which depends on their magnitude, predictability, location and regularity
among other factors, and place enormous strain on most parts of
infrastructure systems including transportation, telecommunications, power
distribution, internet, waste generation and collection, etc. By focusing
on better strategic planning and development and robust design,
communities, decision makers and individuals can be more effective in
making better use of existing infrastructure, better planning and design of
planned infrastructure, reduce adverse impacts, share information, better
utilize technology and strengthen responsibility and lines of
communication.
Research papers related to planning, design and
management of infrastructure systems including transportation,
constructed facilities, energy, water, telecommunications, and the Internet
for big events are invited. Sample topics include, but are not limited
to:
- ·
Infrastructure planning and design for
frequent and infrequent big events.
- ·
Decision making and analysis for Infrastructure systems planning for big
events.
- ·
Infrastructure security considerations.
- ·
Environmental considerations and
pollution.
- ·
Uncertainty and Damage modelling
for big events.
- ·
Emergency response planning.
- ·
Impacts assessment.

published elsewhere are not accepted. For complete instructions
on manuscript preparation, go to http//www.pubs.asce.org/authors/guide.html.
All
authors of manuscripts submitted to the Journal of
Infrastructure Systems are required to submit a list of
potential reviewers. This list should include the complete name,
address, telephone and fax numbers, and e-mail address. The journal
is not obliged to use any recommended reviewers;
however, we feel that this policy will lead to an improved review
process.
